Joshua Safer is the Executive Director of the Mount Sinai Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery in New York City and Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Dr. Safer was the inaugural president of the United States Professional Association for Transgender Health (USPATH), is a current board member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) and has been a scientific co-chair for WPATH international meetings.
Dr. Safer is a co-author of the Endocrine Society guidelines for the medical care of transgender patients, the WPATH Standards of Care version 8 (SOC-8), the transgender hormone treatment sections for UpToDate, the current transgender medical care review in the New England Journal of Medicine and the current review of transgender medical care in Annals of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Safer graduated medical school at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, completed residency in Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City, and completed fellowship in Endocrinology at the Harvard-Longwood program based at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
